Abdeen Palace was built by Khedive Isma'il and completed in 1874, and it served as the main residence of the rulers of Egypt until the 1950s. It takes its name from Abdeen Bey, whose house stood on the site. Several wings are open as museums, displaying weapons, silverware, gifts to the royal family and presidential collections. It stands on Abdeen Square in central Cairo.
