Muhammad Abu al-Mawahib al-Shadhili al-Tunisi lived in Cairo in the ninth century AH and learned the path from the teachings of Sayyid Ali Wafa. He became known for his poetry of divine love and for his sayings, and he lived near al-Azhar, where he would often withdraw to the roof of his house in seclusion. Mazarat Misr praises a book of his on the ways of people in society for its insight into human nature. His mosque and tomb stand in the al-Tunsi quarter of the Qarafa, south of the Citadel.
