This mosque at the foot of al-Muqattam holds the graves of the shaykhs of the Dumi branch of the Khalwatiyya, a Sufi order that spread widely in Ottoman Egypt. It is still visited by followers of the order, and the celebrated munshid Sayyid al-Naqshbandi is buried beside it. The mosque stands on the road below the hills, a short walk north of the mosque of Ibn Ata Allah al-Iskandari. Shaykh Abd al-Jawad al-Dumi of the same order is buried a little further north-west.
