The mosque of Uthman Katkhuda, known as al-Kikhya, was built in 1734 by the amir Uthman Katkhuda al-Qazdughli, one of the most powerful men of Ottoman Cairo, who left much of his property to support it. Its Ottoman facade and minaret stand out on al-Gomhoreya Street near al-Ataba, close to Opera Square, and it is an active mosque for daily and Friday prayers.
