The mosque of Qadi Yahya was built in 1444 by Zayn al-Din Yahya, the ustadar or steward of Sultan al-Zahir Jaqmaq, with a sabil and a kuttab. It is also known as the mosque of Shaykh Faraj, after Shaykh Faraj al-Sutuhi who is buried in it, and the founder is buried by one of its doors. Four iwans open onto a covered courtyard, with a stone mihrab and an inlaid wooden minbar, and a minaret of three stages rises at one corner. The mosque was renewed in the late nineteenth century. It stands where al-Azhar Street meets Port Said Street, near Bab al-Khalq.
