The mosque of Sidi Abd al-Qadir al-Shadhili stands in the Mina al-Basal district, near the Mahmoudiya Canal, and is named after Sidi Abd al-Qadir al-Shadhili, whose shrine is in the mosque. Mina al-Basal was long the city's inland port and warehouse quarter on the canal, and the mosque serves the people who live and work there.
