Kom al-Nadura is a hill in the al-Labban district that has served as a lookout over the Western Harbour for centuries. The Fatimids built a watchtower here to follow the movement of ships, a fort was built on the hill during the French expedition of 1798 to 1801, and a water cistern and small observatory were added in the nineteenth century. The tower that stands on the hill today was built in 1926 on the ruins of the old Fatimid tower and rises about 24 metres in three levels. The hill gives wide views over the harbour and the old city.
