Sayyid Ahmad ibn Isa, known as al-Muhajir, the Emigrant, was a descendant of Sayyiduna al-Husayn through Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq. In 317 AH he left Basra with his family and settled in Hadramawt, and almost all the Ba-Alawi sayyids of Hadramawt, East Africa and South-East Asia trace their lineage to him. He passed away in 345 AH at al-Husayyisa, between Seiyun and Tarim. His grave lies on the hillside above al-Husayyisa, reached by a stairway up to the white domed shrine, with a mosque and visitors' buildings below. The shrine looks out over the palm groves of Wadi Hadramawt and is one of the first places pilgrims to the valley visit.
