Emir Shams al-Din Sharur al-Jazaʾiri was an Algerian nobleman who came to Damascus and was eventually buried in the city. The surviving inscription above his grave clearly records his name and describes him as an emir from Algeria, although detailed information concerning his life, family and historical role has not been preserved in readily available sources. His modest grave remains a little-known reminder of the longstanding religious and cultural connections between Algeria, Damascus and the wider lands of al-Sham.
