Shaykh Muhammad Sa'id al-Halwani (1911 to 1969) came from the famous Halwani family of Qur'an reciters of Damascus. He learned the ten readings from his father, Shaykh Muhammad Salim al-Halwani, and his brother, and after his brother's passing he became head of the reciters (shaykh al-qurra') of Damascus. He was also a physician and founded a hospital in the city. He led the Fajr prayer at Jami' al-Tawbah for many years. He passed away in 1969 and was buried in the al-Dahdah cemetery.
