This shrine on the Citadel of Kirkuk holds tombs honoured as those of Nabi Danyal, known in the Bible as Daniel, and his three companions, who were taken captive to Babylon and remained faithful to Allah. Shrines in his name are also honoured at Susa in Iran and at Samarkand. The shrine stands within a mosque on the citadel mound, with an old minaret beside it, and is visited by Muslims of all communities in Kirkuk.
