This shrine is honoured as that of Sayyid Sa'dullah, son of Sayyid Abdullah al-Mahd, the grandson of Sayyiduna al-Hasan ibn Ali. Abdullah was called al-Mahd, the one of pure lineage, because both his father and his mother descended from the Prophet ﷺ. It lies in al-Darb al-Ahmar, about 50 metres from the mosque of Qijmas al-Ishaqi, whose carved stone facade appears on the Egyptian fifty-pound note. The mosque of Ahmad al-Mihmandar and the Fatimid mosque of al-Salih Tala'i are a short walk along the same street, the old road from Bab Zuwayla to the Citadel.
