Hammam Nur al-Din is one of the oldest bathhouses of Damascus, founded in the twelfth century by Nur al-Din Zangi, whose madrasa and grave are nearby. It is still a working hammam, with its domed rooms, hot rooms and marble basins in daily use. The hammam opens onto Souq al-Bzouriyah, a few steps from Khan As'ad Pasha and the Azem Palace. Visitors can bathe in the traditional way, with steam rooms, scrubbing and tea in the domed reception hall. It is a working business, so prices and hours are set by its operators.
