The Fathi Mosque stands on al-Qaymariyya street in the eastern part of Old Damascus. It is an Ottoman foundation of the eighteenth century, built by Fathi Efendi al-Falaqinsi, the treasury official of Damascus, and it carries his name to this day. The Damascus Awqaf directorate lists it among the historic mosques of the old city. The mosque is entered from the busy lane of al-Qaymariyya, a few minutes' walk east of the Umayyad Mosque. Its courtyard, striped stonework and slender minaret are typical of the Ottoman mosques of Damascus, and it remains a working neighbourhood mosque. Maktab Anbar and the old courtyard houses of the eastern quarters lie close by.
