The Damascus Opera House, Dar al-Opera, is Syria's main venue for opera, classical and Arabic music, dance and theatre, standing on Umayyad Square in the modern centre of the city. It hosts concerts and performances by Syrian and visiting artists through the year. The building combines a modern design with Arab architectural motifs, and its halls and public spaces display works by Syrian artists. It stands beside the Syrian National Library on Umayyad Square, a short drive from the Old City.
