About Al-Hasan Ibn Ali Mosque

Located on Corniche al-Midan, near the Southern Ring Road in the historic al-Midan district of Damascus, Jāmiʿ al-Hasan is one of the area’s prominent congregational mosques. The mosque was established in the mid-twentieth century through the efforts of the respected Damascene scholar Shaykh Hasan Habannakah al-Maydani and became an important centre for the five daily prayers, Jumuʿah, Qur’an memorisation, religious teaching and community gatherings. The mosque is named in honour of Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan ibn ʿAli (RA), the beloved grandson of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and the son of Sayyidah Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ and Sayyiduna ʿAli ibn Abi Talib (RA). Imam al-Hasan is especially remembered for his nobility, generosity and his decision to relinquish political authority in order to reconcile the Muslims and prevent further bloodshed.
