Bab al-Faradis, the Gate of the Gardens, is one of the gates in the northern wall of Old Damascus, named after the orchards that once lay outside it. It is also called Bab al-Amara after the quarter around it. The gate was rebuilt in the Ayyubid period on an older foundation. The gate opens from the lanes north of the Umayyad Mosque towards the al-Amara quarter, and its vaulted passage is still used every day by people moving in and out of the old city. Bab al-Salam is a short walk to the east, and the Jawza Mosque and Souq Saruja lie beyond.
