Fulful Fort stood on Jabal La'la' in the al-Qararah quarter, north of Masjid al-Haram, and was built in 1215 AH (1800-01) under Sharif Ghalib, in the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Selim III. Around 1885, under the governor Osman Nuri Pasha, it was turned into a military hospital that also cared for pilgrims who fell ill during Hajj. The fort was taken down in 1430 AH (2009). Its site lies about 880 metres north of the Ka'bah.
