This water tank close to Jabal al-Rahmah was one of the Ottoman works built to supply water to pilgrims on the plain of Arafat. Ottoman governors and sultans spent heavily on the water supply of Makkah and the holy sites, repairing the channels of Ayn Zubaydah and building tanks and fountains along the route of Hajj. The tank went out of use when larger modern tanks were built. It stands near Jabal al-Rahmah, which remains the most visited place at Arafat in every season.
