Masjid Bilal is a large modern mosque a short walk south of Masjid al-Nabawi, named after Bilal ibn Rabah, the Companion who was the first mu'adhdhin of Islam and called the adhan for Nabi Muhammad ﷺ in Madinah. The mosque carries his name in his honour; the site of Bilal's own house is remembered separately, close to Masjid al-Nabawi. The white mosque, with its single tall minaret and green dome, stands on Abd al-Muhsin ibn Abd al-Aziz Street in the Qurban district. The streets around it are lined with shops, including the market known as Souq Bilal, which visitors know for its gold and jewellery.
