Masjid al-Hubaysh, also called the mosque of Shaykh Abdulaziz al-Ulayji, stands in the al-Rifa'ah quarter of Hofuf and dates from the thirteenth century AH. Shaykh al-Ulayji, a leading scholar of fiqh and Arabic in al-Ahsa, taught here, and it became a place where students from across al-Ahsa came to study. Its limestone walls carry an arcade of rounded arches, with a roof of wooden beams, reeds and woven mats, an open courtyard, a small retreat room and a square minaret. It was restored in the first phase of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques, launched in 2018, reviving it after a period of disuse.
