The old town of Khaybar was built of black basalt and mud among the palm groves and springs of the oasis, below the old fort on the hill. Khaybar was opened by Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and the Muslims in 7 AH, and its people went on farming the oasis for centuries afterwards. The old town was left when its people moved to the new town, and its stone houses and narrow lanes still stand beside the palm groves. It lies about 240 metres from the Battle Site of Khaybar.
