Opposite Bab al-Nisa' on the eastern side of Masjid al-Nabawi stood the house of Raytah, daughter of al-Saffah, the first Abbasid caliph, and wife of the caliph al-Mahdi, to whom she bore two sons. She was one of the most prominent Abbasid princesses of her time and passed away in Baghdad in the 780s. In later centuries the plot was occupied by the zawiya of Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, also known as the Saman zawiya, which Ibrahim Rifat Pasha saw there in the early twentieth century. The site was taken into the enlarged mosque in the twentieth century and lies about 85 metres north-east of the Green Dome.
