King Talal Dam holds back the Zarqa river in the hills between Jerash and the Jordan Valley, and its lake is the largest reservoir in Jordan. It was completed in 1977 and raised in the 1980s, and its water irrigates farms in the Jordan Valley. The road along the valley gives views over the lake, and the Royal Botanic Garden stands on the slopes above it.
