About Maqam of Musa al-Kazim

This small maqam in the lanes of old Karbala, just north of the area between the shrines of Sayyiduna al-Husayn and Sayyiduna al-Abbas, marks the place where Imam Musa al-Kazim is remembered to have stayed when he came to visit his ancestor's grave. Tradition relates that he bathed here, put on clean clothes and perfume, and then walked to the shrine glorifying Allah as he went. Imam al-Kazim is buried in Kadhimiya in Baghdad. The maqam opens onto its lane through a tiled facade with a latticed window and a large panel bearing the words of his ziyara. It is one of several maqams of the Imams tucked among the alleys of the old city around the two shrines, and it is visited by many pilgrims, though it takes a little searching to find.
