About Grave of Yasif Ibn Ali

Sayyid Yasif ibn Ali is a locally revered Sayyid whose shrine is situated in the al-Sikak area of Basra, close to the historic railway district known locally as Five Mile. Although little reliable published information survives concerning his period, life or precise genealogy, his grave has long been recognised by the surrounding community and developed into an established place of ziyarah. The shrine is today formally administered as one of the recognised religious sites of Basra and maintains an active programme of religious, Qur'anic and community activities. The continuing use of the name Sayyid Yasif ibn Ali in official shrine records confirms the traditional identity associated with the site, while the absence of a securely documented genealogy means that claims connecting him to a particular branch of the Ahl al-Bayt should be treated cautiously unless further historical evidence is found.
