This shrine east of Karbala is honoured as the grave of Sayyid Isma'il, a son of Abdullah ibn Ja'far al-Tayyar, the nephew and son-in-law of Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib. It is one of the best-known local shrines on the approach to the city. It stands beside the road from Karbala to al-Hindiyya (Tuwayrij), in the Furayha area near the University of Karbala, about 6 km from the city. Pilgrims travelling to and from Karbala often stop here to pray.
