About Grave of Al-Fadil al-Miqdad al-Suyuri

Al-Fadil al-Miqdad al-Suyuri was a distinguished Iraqi Muslim jurist, theologian and scholar of the medieval period. Originally from Suyur near al-Hillah, he later settled in Najaf, where he studied under leading scholars including al-Shahid al-Awwal and became known for his writings on Islamic law, Qur'anic jurisprudence and theology, particularly Kanz al-ʿIrfan fi Fiqh al-Qur'an. He also established a religious school in Najaf and became one of the recognised scholarly figures of his generation. A longstanding shrine in al-Muqdadiyah, Diyala, is traditionally attributed to al-Miqdad al-Suyuri and has become one of the area's recognised religious landmarks and places of ziyarah. The shrine was badly damaged in an attack in 2006 and subsequently reconstructed, and it continues to be maintained under Iraq's official shrine administration. The precise burial attribution, however, is disputed, as a number of biographical sources instead record that al-Miqdad died in Najaf in 826 AH and was buried in its cemetery.
