This rural shrine south of Baghdad is honoured as the grave of Abdullah al-Mahd, son of al-Hasan al-Muthanna and great-grandson of Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyida Fatima through Sayyiduna al-Hasan. He was the leading elder of the Hasani line in Madinah in the 8th century and the father of Muhammad al-Nafs al-Zakiyya and Ibrahim. Shrines in his name are also honoured near al-Shinafiya in Diwaniyah, in Hillah and in Cairo. The shrine stands among farmland with a village cemetery beside it, and the people of the surrounding villages visit it and bury their dead nearby.
