This was the home of Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri (1899-1997), one of the greatest Arabic poets of the 20th century, given to him by the Iraqi state in the early 1970s. It is now a small museum of his life and work. The rooms show his books, manuscripts, photographs and personal belongings, and his poems are written on the garden walls beside his bronze statue. It is in the Qadisiyya district, entry is free, and it is open on weekday mornings.
