Al-Umma Park is the historic public garden in the heart of Baghdad, opened in 1937 as the King Ghazi Garden. It has been one of the main gathering places of the city ever since. It has been relandscaped in recent years with lawns, paths and a musical fountain with a statue of a mother at its centre. The Freedom Monument stands at its edge on Tahrir Square.
