These ruins in the upper town of Jajce were the church of St Mary, the main church of the medieval royal town, where the last Bosnian king, Stjepan Tomašević, was crowned in 1461. Beside it rises the bell tower of St Luke, named after the relics of the Evangelist that were kept here for a time in the fifteenth century. After Jajce came under Ottoman rule in 1527, the church was turned into a mosque known as the Fethija, 'of the conquest', and dedicated to Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Today the roofless walls and the tower are a national monument, standing close to the Bear Tower and the catacombs on the way up to the fortress.
