About Dizdar Masjid (Women's Masjid), Jajce

The Dizdar Masjid, also called the Women's Masjid, stands in the upper part of Jajce known as Gornja Mahala, below the fortress. It was built in 1812-13 by Sulejman Bey Kulenović, and its date was recorded in a chronogram above the entrance. It is a small single-room mosque without a minaret. Its masonry dome is hidden beneath a tent-like hipped roof, a form that is rare in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mosque was repaired in 2002, and it is a quiet stop on the walk up to the fortress through the old lanes of the town.
