Mogorjelo is the site of a late-Roman villa rustica, a country estate that produced olive oil and wine, built near the Neretva in the fourth century. It was later surrounded by strong walls with towers and gates, making it a fortified complex. The excavated walls, gateways, rooms and courtyards are laid out on a low hill just outside Čapljina, with a view over the Neretva valley. It is free to visit and rarely crowded, and makes an easy stop on the road between Mostar and the coast, close to Počitelj.
