Počitelj is a walled Ottoman hill town on the Neretva south of Mostar, and the Gavrankapetanović House was the home of its hereditary captains, the family who commanded the town and its fortress for the Ottomans. The stone house is built on the steep slope in the traditional Herzegovinian style, with a courtyard, thick walls and upper rooms looking over the river. It was restored with the rest of Počitelj after the war. The house can be combined with the town's mosque of Hajji Alija, its hamam, clock tower and fortress, all a short climb apart.
