The Tawila Tanks are a series of great stone cisterns built into a gorge above Crater in Aden to catch and store the rainwater that runs off the volcanic mountains. Their exact age is unknown, and they were cleared and restored in the 1850s. The tanks step down the gorge with stairways, walls and channels, and are one of the most visited sights of Aden. The site closes around sunset.
