Aban Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Aden and was long a centre of learning in the city. It is named after Aban, traditionally said to be Aban ibn Uthman, the son of the caliph Uthman ibn Affan. The mosque was rebuilt in a modern style in recent decades, with a decorated white facade and minaret, and it stands on one of the main streets of Crater, Aden's old town inside the volcanic crater.
