Rada'a Citadel rises on a rock above the old town of Rada'a. Local tradition credits its first building to the Himyarite king Shammar Yuhar'ish, and it was renovated by the Tahirid sultan Amir ibn Abd al-Wahhab, who also built the Amiriyya Madrasa in the town. The citadel's mud and stone towers and walls stand over the market streets, and it is one of the best-known landmarks of al-Bayda.
