The National Museum of Yemen in Sana'a was founded in 1971 and holds the country's most important collection of antiquities, from the kingdoms of Saba, Ma'in, Qataban and Himyar through the Islamic periods. It is housed in Dar al-Sa'd, one of the palaces of the imams on Tahrir Square. The galleries display bronze statues, inscriptions, carved stone, manuscripts and traditional crafts, and the museum stands beside Qubbat al-Mutawakkil and the Museum of Popular Heritage.
