Al-Taqwa Mosque in the Bustan al-Sultan quarter of Sana'a was founded in the eighteenth century by Imam al-Mahdi Abbas, who also built the Qubbat al-Mahdi nearby. The quarter takes its name from the Sultan's Garden, which served as the seat of government in that period, and lies west of the Sa'ila.
