Kamaran is the largest Yemeni island in the Red Sea, off the coast north of Hodeidah, with mangroves, coral reefs and quiet beaches. It has a long history as a stopping place on the Red Sea routes. The island is reached by boat from the mainland, and its Great Mosque of 1515 stands near the old harbour.
