The Great Mosque of al-Hawtah is the official mosque of Lahj, associated with the scholar Umar ibn Abdullah al-Musawi and restored by the Abdali sultans of Lahj. Timber for the building is said to have been brought from India. The mosque stands in al-Hawtah, the old capital of Lahj, with a white minaret and a large gateway, and holds Friday and Eid prayers and religious lessons.
