Sayyid Ahmad ibn Zayn al-Habashi (1069–1145 AH) was one of the foremost students of Imam Abdullah ibn Alawi al-Haddad and a respected scholar of Hadramawt. He settled at the place that became known as Hawtat Ahmad ibn Zayn, west of Seiyun, and made it a hawta, a sanctuary where tribes did not fight, which grew into the town that bears his name. His grave lies under a large white dome beside the main road through the town, with smaller domes and a cemetery around it. It is visited by people travelling through Wadi Hadramawt and as part of the visitations around Shibam and Seiyun.
