The Diksam Plateau in the centre of Socotra holds the island's densest forests of dragon's blood trees, the umbrella-shaped trees found only on Socotra. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its unique plants and animals. The plateau lies at around 700 to 800 metres, with deep canyons, pastoral villages and campsites, and sunsets behind the dragon's blood trees are one of the famous sights of the island.
