Al-Qashla Citadel stands near Bab al-Yaman in the old town of Sa'dah. Its name comes from the Turkish word for barracks. The fortress is built of mud with round towers decorated with bands of red, a fortified gateway and long arcaded passages, and stands beside the old city wall, close to al-Hadi Mosque.
