The Shaharah Bridge spans a deep gorge to link the two mountain peaks on which the town of Shaharah stands, north of Amran. It is built entirely of local stone, its arch held together by its own weight, and is one of the most famous landmarks of Yemen. The bridge is reached through the mountain-top town, and the drop below it is around 200 metres. The Great Mosque of Shaharah is nearby.
