Al-Bishiyya Mosque and Madrasa in Zabid was first built in 739 AH by the Rasulid sultan al-Mujahid Ali ibn Dawud. It takes its present name from the Ottoman governor Mustafa Pasha al-Nashshar, who rebuilt it in the tenth century AH, and it adjoins the dome of the Ayyubid ruler al-Mu'izz ibn Tughtakin (d. 598 AH). The domed prayer hall has a mihrab framed by carved marble columns, and Mustafa Pasha, his wife and children are buried under a small dome beside it. The mosque is built of brick and stands in the east of the historic city.
