This mosque and lodge in the Suwayqah area of al-Midan was built in 1568 by Murad Pasha, the Ottoman governor of Damascus. It served as a takiyya where pilgrims gathered before setting out with the Hajj caravan, and it later became a centre of the Naqshbandi Sufi order, which is why it is also known as the Naqshbandi Mosque. Its courtyard is surrounded by arcades and rooms for students, and the complex also contains a mausoleum. It remains an active mosque.
