Za'bal Castle stands on a hilltop at the north-western edge of Sakakah, guarding the oasis below. The present fort is around four hundred years old and is thought to stand on the remains of a much older building, with a stone and mud wall and four corner towers reached by a single winding path. At the foot of the hill is the Sisra well, cut into the rock with steps leading down to a channel that once carried water through the town. The castle is lit at night and gives views over Sakakah.
