This old well stands beside the boundary markers of the Haram on the old Jeddah road at al-Shumaisi, the area known in the sirah as al-Hudaybiyyah. Here Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and his Companions camped in 6 AH on their way to perform umrah, and here the Pledge of Ridwan was taken and the Treaty of al-Hudaybiyyah agreed with Quraysh. The sirah records that the well of al-Hudaybiyyah had almost run dry when the Muslims arrived, and that its water returned in abundance after the Prophet ﷺ blessed it. The old well at this spot is honoured as the well of al-Hudaybiyyah, and a second well beside it dates from the reign of King Abdulaziz. A small old domed building and the pillars marking the boundary of the Haram stand alongside. The modern Masjid al-Hudaybiyyah, listed separately as the Treaty and Pledge Site of Hudaybiyyah, is about 2.5 km away.
